Pomu Rainpuff (ぽむ れいんぱふ) is an English female Virtual YouTuber affiliated with NIJISANJI EN's first wave "LazuLight", alongside Elira Pendora and Finana Ryugu.
Introduction Video
【NIJISANJI EN DEBUT】BIRTH OF THE STRONGEST FAIRY 「LazuLight」
Pomu's debut stream.
Profile
A fairy who lived in a lush forest.
Supple like a flower in the breeze, cheerful and optimistic.[3]
Personality
Pomu is friendly, mischievous, and cheerful. She is a hardcore otaku who becomes very passionate when discussing her favorite topics, such as maid cafes or her favorite idols. She's not hesitant to fawn (or in some cases, perv out) over cute girls, including her fellow Livers.
Her streams are known for fun, silly antics such as adding wotagei mix chants during karaoke. Pomu enjoys roleplaying, and sometimes gets hyperfocused on the game she's playing. However, she still tries to be considerate of her viewers and puts a lot of importance on showing her appreciation. At the same time, she enjoys messing with her chat and finding ways to catch them off guard.
Overall, Pomu's a very hardworking and creative person who's willing to try a variety of new things. She always aims to provide a quality experience for her viewers, and can sometimes be a bit stubborn about following through on her plans. However, she also can be rather harsh on herself when her plans don't work out or she doesn't meet her own standards.
Pomu proclaims herself to have the "biggest PP energy," and on her schedules, her days off from streaming are marked as "PP energy restoration" days. She enjoys bantering with her fellow EN Livers, whom she regards more of as friends than coworkers. In collabs, she likes to spice things up by roleplaying, but may also react fiercely when slighted.
History
Background
On 30 November 2020, NIJISANJI opened auditions for their new English branch, with the audition period lasting until 15 December.[4] Youtube channels for NIJISANJI EN's first wave were created on 21 April 2021, and their Twitter accounts were created in May 2021.
On 12 May 2021, NIJISANJI announced the upcoming debut of their English branch's first group, LazuLight, revealing a teaser with the new Livers' designs and voices.[5] Their Twitter and Youtube accounts were also made public at this time. Pomu's Twitter account initially got suspended, but was restored later that day.
Debut
LazuLight began their activities on 16 May 2021 (JST/GMT) as part of a special debut program on the NIJISANJI World channel hosted by Hana Macchia and Bonnivier Pranaja. Pomu was the first of the group to debut. Her debut stream featured a hand-drawn introductory video, as well as her own rendition of "Hamtaro Tottoko Uta" including wotagei mixes.[1]
Afterwards, all three members of LazuLight appeared on the main channel's special program, where each of them was given a piece of the moon from Staff-san.[6] Pomu would later name her piece of the moon Area PP1.[7] Immediately after the debut program, LazuLight released their first original song, "Diamond City Lights." This song was composed by Mafumafu, and the lyrics were written by Nelson Babin-Coy and Hoshikawa Sara.[8]
2021
On 4 June, her Youtube channel was approved for monetization.
On 12 June, she and the rest of LazuLight participated in an Among Us collab with various members of other NIJISANJI branches. This marked their first collab outside of NIJISANJI EN.[9]

During this stream, LazuLight also announced an Otakuthon costume contest in which fans would design original outfits for the EN Livers and submit through Twitter. Each Liver would pick their top five designs, and the winners would receive free tickets to Otakuthon.[12]
On 18 July, LazuLight's debut voice packs went on sale, with custom voice packs limited to the first 100 purchases. Pomu's voice packs sold the fastest of the three members, with all custom voice packs sold out by 23 July.[13]
On 21 July, she held a collab with Projekt Melody. This marked Pomu's first one-on-one collab outside of NIJISANJI.[14]
On 23 July, Pomu announced during a Google Maps stream that she would go on hiatus starting 28 July due to undergoing surgery.[15]
On 27 July, she announced her winners for the Otakuthon costume contest. This was also her last stream before going on break.[16] However, she continued to make unofficial appearances in other Livers' streams.
On 16 August, she resumed her streaming activities with a Minecraft stream.[17]
On 30 August, she opened memberships on her Youtube channel. By the end of her stream, over 1,600 viewers had joined her membership.[18]

On 18 November, she held her first solo sponsored stream, a pre-release promotion for SEGA's game "Project Sekai: Colorful Stage! feat. Hatsune Miku." Pomu's stream focused on the group MORE MORE JUMP!
On 19 December, Pomu's "First Step Goods" merchandise and Christmas 2021 voice pack went up for sale.

On 22 January, LazuLight announced in a collab that they would get new costumes on 29 January.[21] They made the Twitter hashtag "#LazuDrip" so that fans could send their predictions for the outfits.[22] [23]
On 29 January, Pomu revealed her new costume, a Taisho-style maid outfit with thigh-high socks and a checkered obi. Her new hairstyle features braided twintails and trimmed bangs. Part of her hairpins were coverted to earrings, her trademark ribbon was moved to the back of her head, and her wings were replaced by green ribbons on her braids.[24] Shortly after her outfit reveal, Pomu released her cover of "Hacking to the Gate" by Itou Kanako. The mix was done by UTALIVE, the artwork was done by tsuki_nonono, and the video was produced by Petra Gurin.[25] Later, new merchandise went up for sale to celebrate LazuLight's new outfits.[26]

This music video featured aerial footage of custom LazuLight acryllic stands in the stratosphere, recorded using a GoPro and a weather balloon. During her project, Pomu's weather balloon reached estimated altitudes of at least 20,000 meters.[31] [note 1] This cover also featured vocals from all 20 EN Livers in the final chorus.

Trivia
Identity
- Species: Forest Fairy[3]
- Color: #258E70 [1]
- In Japanese, her name is spelled in hiragana rather than katakana because she finds it cuter.
- She speaks some Japanese due to having lived abroad. She studies in her spare time to communicate better with Japanese viewers and Japanese Livers.
Lore
- According to Pomu's intro video, she comes from Virtual Neverland. Because people don't believe in fairies anymore, she is losing her magic powers and had to become an OL (office lady). Looking for ways to restore belief in fairies, she did a lot of research on the Internet, which also turned her into a "cultured" fairy. After discovering anime and VTubers, she decided to become a VTuber herself, determined to become the world's strongest fairy and achieve world domination.[50]
- She comes from the Rainpuff clan of fairies.
- She lives in a tree. It's implied that any time she appears to be streaming from somewhere not in the forest, she's actually still in the forest, but using a green screen or a cloth backdrop tied to two trees.
- She can use magic to enlarge her body from 9 cm to 156 cm, but her brain remains the same size.[51]
- There is a restaurant in her forest that she likes to go to because it has a heated bidet that she can sit on for warmth.
- Her arms are capable of bending or wiggling at extreme angles.[17]
- She also appears to have the ability to summon additional arms at will, though she claims the extra arms are just other Pomus assisting her.
- In VRChat and handcam streams, she can perform a hand trick in which she forms a wave with her hands.[52] This is sometimes considered evidence of her wiggly arm lore.
- She has the power to transform her wings, allowing her to fold them up, turn them into something else, or put them away completely.[53] In her maid outfit, her wings transformed into green hair ribbons.
- She canonically doesn't wear panties.
- In fairy form, her thighs can crush a blueberry.
About fairies in general
- When she was a child, Pomu would play nasty tricks on others by making up stories to terrify them, sometimes as revenge for tricks that they played on her. She assures everyone that this is just a normal part of fairy culture.[54]
- Fairies are born from flowers, so 70% of a fairy's body is made of nectar, just like how 70% of a human's body is made of water.[55]
- Fairies count their age in flowers, with Pomu being "one flower old" at debut and gaining one petal each year. However, she keeps it intentionally vague on many petals or years equate to one flower for age purposes.
- Most fairies are 13-14 cm tall, making Pomu short even by fairy standards.
- As a fairy, Pomu is particularly susceptible to being imprisoned in a glass jar.[56]
- The native language of fairies is not English, but rather "fairy-go" (as in "fairy語").[57]
- Fairies are capable of flight due to the size of their wings and their lightweight bones.[58]
Alter egos
- Da Pomky, her artist alter ego. Has a mustache and a beret. Appeared during Pomu's early drawing streams.
- Pomura Inpuff, her "onee-san" alter ego. Speaks in a deeper, more mature voice, and doesn't wear the ribbon or the hairpins. Later spun off as the titular character of the Pomura Arc.
- For April Fools 2022, Pomu changed her Twitter icon and name to Pomura Inpuff of NINISANI EN.
- Pomurai Npuff, her "otaku" alter ego. Speaks in a nasally, stereotypical weeaboo voice.
- The record-holder of Minecraft, an otherwise unaliased Pomu from an alternate timeline who played for 10 years in a single Minecraft Hardcore playthrough (which would surpass the actual record of 5 years). Unfortunately, the chat fell into a coma for all 10 years, during which the alternate Pomu grew a beard and was awarded a medal. Shortly after chat awoke, this Pomu was apparently assassinated by a nurse.[59] She was later said to have survived, and is now the CEO of S.C.A.M. with 10 million subscribers on her channel.
- Another Pomu named Prosecutor Pomsky appeared during the "Pomu Goes to Court" stream wearing the Minecraft Hardcore medal. The exact connection between Pomsky and the record-holder Pomu has yet to be revealed.
- Umop, another fairy from Pomu's forest who performed dances for Pomu's karaoke on one occasion. Her appearance uses VRChat's 2A-7-0Q default avatar rather than Pomu's actual design.[60]
- Cupidmu, an extortionist posing as a love cupid who helped the chat during a speed dating event. After hooking the chat up with a bunnygirl Pomu, she attempted to extort matchmaking fees from the chat, but was gunned down by law enforcement.
- Censored Pomu, a cursed-looking red Pomu who speaks using the goXLR's lowest pitch settings, typically accompanied by an eerie BGM. An early incarnation manifested from Pomu's angst over being unable to play Minecraft with Elira. She turned Pomu's forest bloody and vowed to remember the viewers after a thousand years. Censored Pomu later returned in a slightly different form when Pomu tried on Reimu Endou's hat, giving her a melted, black-and-red appearance. Usually, Censored Pomu appears as a punishment for the chat.
Pomura Arc
- The "Pomura arc" is a series of interactive, CYOA-like streams that appears to be set in a world that has undergone complete Pomufication.
- Pomura Inpuff: On 23 August, Pomura went on a date with the chat (personified as "Pomudachi Chad"). Pomura revealed that she was originally a separate person who was subjected to Pomufication when Pomu took over the world, but managed to resist her brainwashing and joined a resistance movement. She and a de-Pomufied chat tried to rob a bank, but they were both captured by the real Pomu and re-Pomufied. This stream ended with the line, "There will never be a Pomura takeover."[61]
- Pomu Goes to Court: On 16 December, Pomu was put on trial (by other Pomus) for various antics in the past few months, with the chat serving as Pomu's lawyer in a similar fashion to the Ace Attorney series. Toward the end of the trial, Pomu was questioned about Pomura's whereabouts, but the trial was interrupted by the ground rumbling and the courthouse catching fire. While everyone else evacuated, the defendant Pomu gave chat a photo of Pomura's apartment, revealing that Pomura was still alive, and she herself had been turned into a new Pomura by the anti-Pomufication resistance. The ARG portion of this stream ended with a brief, glitchy transmission from Pomura, followed by a mostly-concealed message concluding with the line, "Pomura will take over."[62]
Inside Jokes
- Pomufication/I'm Pomu!: Early on, Pomu's channel featured a pinned clip of her exclaiming "I'm Pomu!", immortalizing it as her catchphrase. Fans began to imitate the clip, joking that they, too, were Pomu. Later, in a Q&A marshmallow stream, Pomu suggested becoming a Pomudachi as a cure to "not-Pomuism", reasoning that since "Pomudachi" contains "Pomu", all Pomudachis are, to a slight extent, Pomu.[46] The details vary, but the process of turning into a Pomu is called "Pomufication."
- S.C.A.M.: Pomu claims to own a company whose name can be abbreviated as S.C.A.M. She insists that the name should be spelled out rather than read as an acronym. The full name of this company varies depending on her mood, but is often "Super Cool Absolute Maniac", "Stocks Contracts Auction Market", or "Spaghetti Comes at Midnight."
- Rival-kun: She used to do long-distance running as a child, and had a rival who lived next door. Her rival would get up early at the same time as her to practice, and she was still mad at him for beating her in their races. After hearing this story, Finana and Elira, as well as Pomu's own viewers, would joke about Pomu and her rival being "tsundere" toward each other.[63] [64]
- Sand Curse: When she was young, her family went on a trip to the desert, where they were warned not to touch the sacred sand, but her mother did so anyway. Pomu later suffered a severe eye affliction, and only recovered thanks to medicine from one of the local tribes. According to Pomu, her family has been cursed with bad luck ever since.[65]
- Time Glove: After running into some confusion with reading time zones, Pomu declared that she would abolish the current system of telling time, and that everyone would instead use their thumb and forefinger to tell the time based on the position of the sun. After realizing this failed to address the reason for time zones existing, she proposed giving everyone a special "time glove" that would tell the exact time regardless of the user's location. Pomu later added a time glove to her membership emotes.
- NINISANI/2232: Pomu has mispelled "NIJISANJI" on multiple occasions, the most infamous of which was "Welcome to NINISANI" in a tweet to Rosemi Lovelock prior to the latter's debut. As a result, "NINISANI" (2232) is sometimes joked to be a knock-off brand of NIJISANJI (2434). Alternatively, "Ninisani" or "2232" may sometimes be used to refer to the NIJISANJI EN branch.

Fatal Frame is one of her favorite game series of all time.
- Since joining NIJISANJI, Minecraft has become one of Pomu's favorite games. Her addiction became a recurring gag among NIJISANJI EN for a while, as she would frequently play off-stream, even during her break. Pomu often jokes about forcing the other EN Livers to play Minecraft with her, and has expressed interest in doing Minecraft collabs with Livers from other branches.
- After streaming Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance beginning in February 2022, Pomu began a series playthroughs of the entire Metal Gear Solid series, beginning with the original Metal Gear Solid. She finished Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty on the 30th of April in 2022, aiming for that date as she knew that the game itself narratively ended on the 30th of April. She has since finished both Metal Gear Solid 3 and 4. While she has enjoyed the franchise to date, during MGS3 playthrough she claimed that she does not like stealth games. She claims that she has since been attempting to get other Vtubers to play the Metal Gear Solid series. At the end of Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots, she said that she doesn't dislike any of the games. She has plans to stream Metal Gear Solid Peacewalker and MGSV: Ground Zeroes, but not The Phantom Pain. She said that Metal Gear Solid is likely her favorite game series of all time.
- She likes characters with white or blue hair, including Rem and Echidna from Re:Zero and Godot from the Ace Attorney series.
- Her favorite holiday is Halloween.
Otaku Interests
- She loves collecting otaku goods, and regularly browses AmiAmi for figurines and other merchandise. She joked in the ending stream of Metal Gear Solid 4 that the merchandise in her room will likely shift from Anime to Metal Gear Solid.
- On 1 Oct 2021, Pomu held an otaku collection/room review, with fans submitting pictures of their room or collections on Twitter with the hashtag "#PotakuCollection."

- Her last visit to Japan was at the end of 2019, just before the pandemic.
- One of her dreams is to go on a trip to Japan with the rest of the NIJISANJI EN branch.
- While not an idol herself, she is a major fan of idols and anisong artists, including BiSH, Perfume, 22/7, Nagakawa Shoko, Suzuki Konomi, ZAQ, Kotoko, Tamura Yukari, Under17, IOSYS, and Ogura Yui.[67]
- Among VTuber fans, the kahen 3-ren wotagei mix ("Jinzo faiya! Faibo waipa!") is strongly associated with Pomu to the point that some fans have taken to calling it the "Pomu mix," much to Pomu's dismay.
- She is a fan of many other Vtubers, including Tsukino Mito, Higuchi Kaede, Amamiya Kokoro, Hoshikawa Sara, Suzuhara Lulu, Kizuna Ai, Tanaka Hime, Suzuki Hina, Kaguya Luna, Pinky Pop Hepburn, Amano Pikamee, and Takanashi Kiara, among others.
- Tsukino Mito is her favorite Liver in NIJISANJI, while Pikamee is her favorite VTuber overall.
- She discovered NIJISANJI through Virtual-san wa Miteru, which she originally watched because of the HimeHina duo.
- She also considers herself a fan of her fellow EN Livers, and regularly buys their merchandise.
Pomusuke
- While not strictly a mascot, Pomu frequently references her pet cat Pomusuke during streams. She usually refers to him as a "stinky boi," which she says has less to do with how he smells and is more due to his "stinky personality."
- Pomusuke has a tendency to sleep in Pomu's bed, and Pomu sometimes wakes up to find him sleeping on top of her.
- She named her first cat in Minecraft after Pomusuke. At the time, her first house in Minecraft was a boat, and the in-game Pomusuke unfortunately drowned while trying to get aboard.
- She gives Pomusuke a British accent while talking for him.[69]
- Her membership emotes include a Pomusuke emote.
Miscellaneous
- She has a wide vocal range, and is great at character impressions.[66]
- She enjoys making cursed image edits.
- Her character designer, Itiso, regularly watches Pomu's streams and can often be found in the chat.
- She writes her lowercase a's as double-story 'a's rather than single-story 'ɑ's.
- Due to having sensitive skin, she has developed a consistent skin care routine.
- She drew her introductory video herself, as LazuLight was not allowed to commission assets for their debuts to keep the launch of NIJISANJI EN a secret.
- She sometimes jokes about having an identity crisis due to Staff-san accidentally referring to her as an elf on two occasions.
- Each subsequent wave of NIJISANJI EN has had at least one new Liver reference Pomu in their debut:
- In her lore video, Rosemi Lovelock discovered Vtubers when she saw Pomu flying around and pollinating other flowers. She later became an intern at S.C.A.M. working directly under Pomu.
- In her lore video, Millie Parfait developed an addiction to a substance called "Pomu Leaf", which led her to become trapped on Earth, crying that she was "scammed."
- In his lore video, Mysta Rias discovered Vtubers when a bartender showed him a clip of Pomu shouting at Finana during a Crab Game collab.
- In Sonny Brisko's lore video, a scam artist with Pomu's silhouette appeared as an example of the types of criminals that the VSF deals with.
- During 2021, she often felt tired and stressed due to her office job, which forced her to maintain a regular sleep schedule and miss out on cross-branch collabs.[48]
- Starting 6 September, she shifted from full-time to MWF at her office job, allowing her to stream at earlier times on Tuesdays and Thursdays. However, this actually made her busier than before, as she now had less time to complete the same amount of office work while also taking on more Liver duties.
- On 12 November, Pomu shared her plans to quit by December, as the past week had been particularly stressful and was the final straw for her. She left her office job on 10 December, and celebrated the next day by streaming Pokemon for 15 hours.[70]
- At her old apartment, she would stream in her closet.[71] Since the closet got very hot after long streams and had little space for moving around in VR, Pomu's current apartment has a dedicated room for streaming.
- One of the first anime series that got her interested in anime was The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya. On 26 June, she sang "God Knows..." 101 times over the course of nine hours.
- During Doom streams, she replaces Doom Guy with her own face on the in-game overlay, and refers to herself as the "Poom Guy."
- During Pokemon streams, she features a Gengar kigurumi over her avatar, and refers to herself as "Pomugar." Pomugar also appears on Elira's ending screen.
- During NIJISANJI Koushien 2021, Pomu was picked as a member of Kagami Hayato's team lineup. In the final match, the in-game Pomu struck a home run that shifted the game in Hayato's favor, prompting him to shout, "I'm Pomu! You are Pomu! We are Pomu!"
- Due to a weak stomach, she can't drink carbonated soda and usually doesn't drink alcohol.
- On Reimu Endou's birthday, Pomu mistakenly told her "Feliz navidad!" instead of "Feliz cumpleaños!" Since then, Livers in NIJISANJI EN have developed a tradition of singing "Feliz Navidad" on each other's birthdays.
- According to Tsukino Mito's NIJISANJI personality quiz game, Pomu has similar personality traits to Shizuka Rin.[72]
- Out of the seven deadly sins, she considers pride to be her greatest flaw.[72]
- She was one of the first NIJISANJI EN Livers to try VR, and provided useful advice to Selen Tatsuki during the "NIJISANJI Express" project.
- She generally has less interest in gacha than her genmates, with Princess Connect being the only gacha game that she plays regularly.
- Reiminiscent of a traditional "fair folk" fairy, she occasionally jokes about consuming human meat or eating children.
- She owns a PS4 with a copy of P.T., and wants to get other EN Livers to play it during off-collabs.
- Fans sometimes joke about her not having a nose.
- Contrary to popular assumption, she had very little input on her second outfit.

Notes
- ↑ This makes LazuLight the first NIJISANJI Livers to achieve such high altitudes, though not the first VTubers to do so overall; Kaguya Luna reached an altitude of 30,000 meters in 2019.
